Just One Chance

White-Faced Heron on our back fence

Photographing flowers and scenery you usually have a chance to think about your shot, reposition, adjust and take multiple photos to choose from. Not so with wildlife nor my children! If you don't quickly snap it then (presuming you already have the camera nearby) then you miss it completely.

Here a few "just one chance" photos from the last few days......

Ta-da.....the unveiling of Princess dress-ups

Princess Miss E posing sweetly

"Wood lizard"

Baby Blue-Tongued lizard visiting again

Australian Green Figbird, above our front yard.

Pink flowering strawberry, photo taken by Miss E (3 years old).....

And promptly eaten by Miss E!

Not always picture perfect, but rather LIFE as it happens.

You have captured some very nice 'just one chance' shots. And how true are you comments, I find it hard to get the quick shot always in focus, especially birds.

I could take a million photos and none would be as beautiful as your "one shot" wonders. Even Miss E at 3 takes beautiful photos.

She is the prettiest little princess ever! :)

Nice ones again. Hope you don't have a pond with fish in your garden. By us in Holland the fish is disappeared after such an meeting. You really have to take drastic measures like wire mesh or something to keep the herons out. Not only the normal goldfish but also the koi or the carp is going.

I used to play with skinks a lot when I was little.
They're so abundant in my garden. :)

This is my first time visiting, and WOW. Thank you so much for the comment on my blog. It was a heartbreaking and eye-opening experience. I just hope the images that I did capture will give the family and the twin when she is old enough to realize some comfort. I also was able to gift a quilt to the living sister, it was the one pictured in the photo of the feet, a little something that she can physically hold on to when she needs her sister by her side.

Thank you for sharing your story and now your blog with me.

What wonderful shots!!! Great capture of the heron, the wood lizard & the blue tongue lizard!!

Looks like little Miss E is going to take after her Mummy - what a great capture of the strawberry!! Eating it is a very deserving reward, I think.:)

Gorgeous Princess dress-up. Did you make it?

Great pictures. It is so true that often you only get one chance to get the perfect picture. Love the pink dress.

The princess dress is a Disney one which is reversible, being snow white on the other side. It was a birthday gift for one of Miss E's older sisters a two or three years ago.

Miss E loves taking photos, very quickly. I did crop and edit her strawberry photo a little.

Ok, now, remember when I commented about my hesitant feelings about frogs? Well, my thoughts on lizards of the medium large variety bring along more tense reactions but I'm nothing if not loyal to your blog Karen, so I did look but perhaps not long enough to give feedback. Promise me, PROMISE me, that you'll email me with a forewarning if there's ever going to be any snake captures. Love the excited smile on miss e's face in her princess attire, the one where she has her hands positioned in character is just adorable. And yeah for her strawberry photo!

Great shots!
My little man was sitting at our back door today and called out "Mummy look! Crocodile!" I went and looked and it was a little "wood lizard" hehe

Love your shot of this lovely heron on your back porch. You have to really be "ready" to catch a shot like this. Also, please tell little miss E that there is a lady in Texas that thinks that she makes the best princess ever. she is just "too cute" in her lovely pink! Do you do dress up often. That is so much fun and what a chance to grow your imagination.

My white-faced heron never sticks around, let alone conveniently sits on the fence. Love the fig bird, never seen one before.

Just the right age to be a princess . . .
