A New "Creative Something"

While searching yesterday for that new "creative something" to try I came across a wonderful site on Etsy - Blue Terracotta by Laura. At once I loved her butterflies and decided to have a go at making one, working it out as I went. The smaller aqua-white butterfly was the result.

Then last night I discovered Laura had a website which includes a tutorial for making her butterflies. My method and materials are a little different but follow a similar basic process.

Today I bought some iron-on interfacing (to give more body to the wings while using quilting weight fabrics) and made the larger purple-green butterfly with a wingspan of 5"/12.5cm. The possibilities are endless for recreating life-like butterflies or being as creative and fanciful as you like. I can't wait to make another one, maybe a little smaller this time.

  1. You could have flying butterflies gracing your wall in place of the flying ducks my Mum had! They would make a pretty mobile too! Lovely!

  2. Patrzyłam na stronki, które pokazałaś w poście i o mało nie zapomniałam napisać komentarza u Ciebie :(. Chcę Ci powiedzieć, że motylki są urocze i pewno najmłodsza córka będzie je nosiła we włosach. Pozdrawiam.
I was looking for sites that you showed in your post and almost forgot to write a comment from you: (. Want to tell you that butterflies are adorable and definitely the youngest daughter will be worn in the hair. Yours.

  5. They are lovely, what a good idea. Eloise has some paper ones also bought from Etsy flying up her bedroom wall that are getting a bit tatty. She could make some of these to replace them.

You make me want to go make something at this very moment.
We just had my husband's brother, mother, grandmother, and three extra nephews added to our household all evening though, I just finished sweeping up & washing dishes.
    I suppose I'll call it a night.
I'm inspired to make something tomorrow though. :)

  20. These are lovely - you could attach little clips of some sort and put them on your Christmas tree. I have seen similar ones made with vintage embroidery on pinterest, so will have to look at this tutorial now. Thank you for sharing them.
