Basting in Progress

Planning to finish the basting tonight or tomorrow. I'm thinking of hand quilting, but maybe not until we have some cooler weather. We've had some very warm and humid days this week.

  1. I must try to baste like that. I always use pins, but then I can hardly wait to remove them! : ) Very pretty handstitching!!

ps... -50C warning for the morning! Midwinter here. : )

  2. I tried pins on one quilt but found them more difficult than hand basting and the end result not quite as good. Also I found them more time consuming to remove as I quilted (by machine on that quilt). I have been hand basting since, even though it's my least favourite stage of quilting.

I use masking tape to secure the back of the quilt to the floor, then smooth the batting all over, followed by the top. I baste from the middle out, smoothing gently as I go. I love having a soft quilt to work with and no danger of marks from pins.

I enjoyed reading of your unique basting technique. If you try hand basting I would like to hear what you think of it.

Hope you're keeping warm. Massive cyclone bearing down on the north of Australia tonight. Thankfully we won't be directly affected where we live.

  3. I cant get over your colors and selection and perfect stitches. Breathtaking. YOU make me want to get in my sewing room right now and play in my fabric. I have not been in there in over 3 years accept to vacuume and dust.
