Where Are The Lions?

"Where are the lions?" Miss E asked again. Some of us were visiting Dubbo's premier tourist attraction,  Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Covering more than 300 hectares (740 acres), it is Australia's greatest open range zoo.

Watching two days of cricket is great - if you're an enthusiast. A look around the zoo was much more interesting than another cricket game, especially for the younger ones.

Did you know Australia has more camels than Arabia? They run feral through some of our large desert interior.
In fact we export camels to Arabia!

"I want to see the lions."

"Where are the lions?"

Almost there....

Miss E loves animals!

And she enjoyed taking photos with her toy camera - shooting the zebras.

"Look, it's not real, you can sit on it." One of many zoo statues.

This much bigger Galapagos Tortoise definitely was real!

"Which animals did you like the most?" Miss E was asked.

"The tiger because he was growling!"

  3. A typical lion pose, the only time they seem to move is when grub is up.
    My favourite are the hippos.
You have beautifully captured all of the animals and your families excitement.

  5. Nie jestem miłośniczką Zoo, ale tutaj mają godziwe warunki życia, mają przestrzeń. Z drugiej strony, gdyby nie Zoo, wiele zwierząt znałoby się tylko ze zdjęć, takich jak Twoje. Pozdrawiam serdecznie.
I'm not a fan of Zoo, but here we have a decent standard of living, they have the space. On the other hand, if it were not zoo, many animals znałoby only with images, such as yours. Yours sincerely.

  7. Beautiful pictures!!!
It is a bit weird to see lions and tigers and elefants and giraffes in Australia(which we alway connect with kangaroos and koala's and other marsupials);-) but a zoo is a zoo I guess. It's not a place I come a lot I have to admit, never actually, I always feel such pity for the animals being kept in there. But this zoo looks great and with lots of space for the animals and of course I also took my kids to the zoo when they were younger. The animals speak to their imagination and it's just amazing to see them in real life of course. I had to discover though they always loved trips to the museum of natural history more than trips to a zoo. They were totally in love with dinosaurs and mammoths and couldn't get enough of it. A Dinosaur park was visited once also. The image of the little Miss E taking pictures with her play camera is also very recognizable. The kids now often take out their albums with self taken pictures from when they were still kids. It is such a great thing to have those and the memories connected with them. I always gave them those carton box throw away cameras; it was not yet the era of digital photography then.
Your post certainly brought back happy memories ;-)
    Bye,
    Marian

  21. Well, the lions were worth the wait, weren't they? I loved the meerkats and the chimp (?) walking along the ropes. In our open range wildlife parks we are forced to drive through. Looks like you can walk through yours. How neat!
