The heat abates, the days are shorter, the early mornings are chilly yet the flowers still bloom and the birds still sing, all at a gentler pace. Winter has come slowly and we wear it pleasantly, seeking fresh air and warm sun on bare arms during the middle hours of our days.
My three youngest are working with me on a lap quilt after the success of Miss E's Simple Life Quilt adventure. Each one has such a different personality and desires, shown clearly in their approach to stitching the centres of their chosen wonky star blocks.
The dance of nature and life is a beautiful and delicate one isn't it, during each and every season.

ReplyDeleteAnd I just love the stitching on those star blocks.
We are supposed to be entering winter, but it's chilly. It hasn't been warm enough for the vegetable seeds in the garden to germinate. Tonight I have a fire going in the living room, warm socks and a wool lap blanket.
Oops - I meant that we are supposed to be entering *summer*.. :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos Karen, I especially like the first one of the pink grevillea. Our grevillea Firesprite is flowering at the moment and the blue faced honey eaters are having a wonderful feast.

Aaaaah.....your exquisite photos of the flowers in all their glory are truly stunning, Karen! Yes, the dance of nature and life swaying to the rhythm of the different seasons in this beautiful country of ours is truly magical! How delightful to have your girls stitching their own personalities into a lap quilt....it will be a treasured keepsake! Love the whimisical fabric and each picture being stitched.

Beautiful photos. You always manage to capture beauty and take such captivating pictures. Also I especially love how you are including your children in your quilting. It is so fun to see the different ways people approach the same task. I can't wait to see this quilt all put together (or just more of those star blocks).

ReplyDeleteAlthough summer is only a couple of weeks away here, we really did not have much of a spring. The flowers and trees bloomed beautifully (thank goodness!), but it has been very chilly and very rainy. Hopefully when summer arrives, things will change. :-)

ReplyDeleteWow...I wish our winters would come in as nice as yours. The Grevillea is so beautiful. I have no idea of what it looks like other than your photo but I sure do love it..and I'm so happy the children are working with needle and thread..I only wish I had learned how to. I'm lucky my SIL is a quilter and I'm extra lucky she likes me..I have two beauties she has made for me..I envy your photo talent and quilting talent...

Karen, that first macro shot is absolutely stunning!! So beautiful. Did you get a macro lens, or is this with your Raynox? I also really love your quilt blocks. I think it is so special that you are making these with your children. What special treasures they will be. I wish I could come and watch you and learn! So many lovely projects, so little time!
