So why do you think - do I need more white? More green? More navy? The colours are actually a little lighter and brighter than they appear here and I'm generally happy with how things are coming together but as I lay them out together for the first time today I'm not quite sure about the balance and contrast. I'm guessing I may be about a quarter of the way through making flowers for my Fresh Fields quilt so there's plenty of room for changes and adjustment.
What would you do? Please share......

Its looking beautiful Karen. I personally would put a bit more navy in just for contrast :-)
ReplyDeleteA może więcej kwiatków z ciemnymi środkami, chociaż mnie się i tak bardzo podoba. Pozdrawiam.
ReplyDeleteOr maybe more flowers with dark agents, and though I like it so much. Yours.
Thank youorah Deb…yes, maybe that is all it really needs, even some more of the blueberry fabrics which are mostly white or light blue with a peppering of navy berries.
ReplyDeleteI think a bit more navy as well!
ReplyDeleteColours look great
ReplyDeleteA bit more of contrast, whether its the navy, green or yellow check any could work
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't be going for too much navy- I think it will weigh it down. Maybe more grey?
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful! I like it just the way it is.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you’re right about the grey PnP, and keep the navy as an accent colour as I had first intended.
ReplyDeleteThanks Denise, I do like the serene tones - you may be right!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, so fresh and clean looking, a real summer quilt.
ReplyDeleteI would add a little more white. Gorgeous!
When I first saw the flowers together that’s what I thought too, more white will let them breathe a little more. Lots to think about….
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful. I think you could keep the colors as they are if you wanted. A couple more white/grey/low-volume flowers could be nice and add some light vintage-y feel. But like I said, it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kels, I’m trying to keep it fresh and serene - low-volume/white will do it best I think. It’s interesting to see a variety of suggestions coming in. I guess there's really no right or wrong answer.
ReplyDeleteI like it but when you ask for color and i look closer I would say there is a lot of blue, and really less yellow and green
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful as is, but maybe just a tad more navy to balance it out.
ReplyDeletevery beatiful! like it!:)
ReplyDeleteWow. This is gorgeous. I would just keep going as you are. It's so fresh and bright, I love it.
ReplyDeleteE xx
I really love the balance you are going with here. It is so pretty. I have a hexies quilt on my bucket list. Am looking forward to your finish!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors, maybe a little more white.
ReplyDeleteLooks perfect for my feelings, fresh and pretty colours.
ReplyDeleteBy the Way ...

Oh, it's looking fabulous!! I would probably add a little more green, and a tiny bit more navy. Also maybe a little more white background/darker print (like your flower that has the bicycle center)
ReplyDeleteIt really is lovely. It makes me sigh happy.
This is really beautiful. I might add more navy.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful colors and arrangement . . . it looks like a sea of flowers. Sew Pretty :)
ReplyDeleteYour blogging sister, Connie :)
Oh wow, how pretty! Hmmm, Perhaps a bit more of the navy in other areas rather than just the centers. And a bit more of that gold-yellow color and gray-ecru color. It's so fun playing with quilt blocks, isn't it? A couple of things you can do... Stand back from your quilt block layout and squint your eyes. That helps you to see how you might need to rearrange colors. Another tip that a friend gave me a long time ago was to take a picture and turn it into a black and white shot. Take a look at the piece without the color, just with the light and dark of the pieces. Can't wait to see your finished project.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful as it is ;-)
ReplyDeletethis is so gorgeous and i have enjoyed seeing the progress you have made!! it looks as though aqua is your predominant color. i would add more green so there is less green than aqua but more green than the white/grey and just a dash of navy. you are so good with color!!!
ReplyDeleteIt really is beautiful so far!
ReplyDeleteAs for what else to add.....I have found that some contrast does add a certain something! but I guess it depends on what sort of look you are after. Linda
It's beautiful! I like the colours as they are. The navy really pops, but I don't think you need more of anything. As long as the navy is evenly distributed in the end I think it will work great.
ReplyDeleteI really love this just the way it is, Karen.
ReplyDeleteThe colors are so fresh and cheerful.
I Love it just the way it is. But I am the worst at knowing these things. Can't wait to see what you do.
ReplyDeleteHugs~
I like how your hexagons are all matching. Mine are just scrappy.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to sew all of these flowers together?
Those are so pretty! I love how fresh the colours are, a smidge more navy would be great but keep it as an accent.
ReplyDeleteI love what you have so far! My suggestion would be to not add too much solid navy. I think adding a few more of the white with navy accents will give it that balance you are looking for without taking away from the softness of the quilt.
ReplyDeletePS. I love the fussy cut centers, they are just gorgeous!
I think I would like to see a few more dark blues and some of the green. Your quilt is really taking shape. So pretty.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the commenter that said too much navy would weigh it down. I like that it is just the centers sprinkled in. A little more white would be nice, but I especially like the fabrics with the little navy flowers and the blue or white backgrounds. I like them better as the petals and not the centers. I think a few more of the green centers sprinkled in would be nice as well. Good luck...can't wait to see the finished project!
ReplyDeleteI think your colors are just perfect as they are. My mom did a similar quilt years ago, and she did a white border, which I really love. It seemed to really enhance the central quilt. beautiful work!
