I See Red



















When our bottle brush tree flowers it is a striking sight and obviously a nectar haven attracting birds large and small. The bright mass of native blooms are short lived which makes it all the more special. The aptly named Rainbow Lorikeets along with the tiny Silver birds and the resplendent Scarlet Honeyeaters each seem to take turns to hop from branch to branch, feasting all the way.

 Early one morning I witnessed a small group of male and female Figbirds having a feeding frenzy on our neighbour's Orange Jasmine/Murraya tree. The berries/seeds soon dissapperaed - as indeed has most the tree as it has been lopped off below the foliage in a major gardening trimming since then.

 Spring showers have brought welcome relief from a long, dry winter. Everywhere you look the grass and trees are vivd green. In fact the lawns need mowing every few days! We have poppies and other beautiful country classics filling our small garden patch with gorgeous dots of colour - much to the delight of myself and the bees!

 Here and there I've taken a few minutes to continue stitching my Ice-cream Soda blocks with fabric choices reflecting the season. In fact there are definite hints of Christmas to be seen....

    It´s a long time since I was here and was pleasanty surrised by your amazing photos of Australian birds wildlife alternating with your colourful ice-cream soda blocks. It really is a feast for the eyes, thank you for so much beauty.

    Wooow! How many colours. We have got Autumn now - it's cold, wet and most often colour is grey ;-) Have a nice day Justyna.

    Where we live we have many colours all year round, but not many of the autumn tones like in colder climates. Long hot summers and mild winters.

    The birds look amazing in the bottle brush. I do love plants that attract them. And I love all the colours of the many varieties of bottle brush.

    Your feathered friends are just beautiful, Karen, and there is so much gorgeous color in these photographs. Most of our autumn leaves have fallen now, and we are in what I call our "gray and brown season," so it is just fantastic to see all of this color.

    I love our bottle brushes and have added many over the last couple of years. They come in so many vibrant and muted colours. What I like most is that they flower twice a year and politely take turns taking the spotlight. Keeping the birds and bees happy for a wide range of weeks. At our place they all flowered weeks ago, now it’s the gum trees taking their turn. To the great delight of the bats.
