A Birthday Book

Last week saw us celebrate becoming a two vehicle family and also a special birthday. Miss E has turned FOUR!
I am so grateful for photos which help us remember those precious early days. Miss E was 5 days old when I took this one (and many more). As with all our children, we chose not to know their gender before birth, leaving that secret as a surprise, a reward to look forward to at the birth. She was over 4kg/9lb and simply beautiful in every way.

After the success of the Christmas Shutterfly calendars and a family yearbook which I made through Blurb, I thoroughly enjoyed creating a special little book for Miss E, celebrating her year of being three. This time I used Shutterfly for which I had a good discount. If international postage was cheaper I would create books more often.

Blurb and Shutterfly work differently to each other, yet I have been pleased with the quality and service of both.  Most the photos I planned to use I had previously uploaded to Shutterfly's free online storage facility. This made the book creation process much quicker.

I chose a large, easy-to-read font as I hope Miss E will learn to read her own special book. For now she loves to "read" it making up her own sentences to fit the photos.

Another chocolate cake which Miss E very enthusiastically helped Miss E (19) to make, ice and decorate. She was also very determined to cut the cake into pieces, rapidly wielding a large, sharp knife.......thankfully she let someone else help in the end!

  1. A very Happy Birthday to Miss E! What a beautiful baby she was and what beautiful young lady she is! I made no effort to find out ahead of time what gender my four children were either. They were each a miracle as I had been told I would never be able to have a child -- let alone four! Your pictures are so delightful! Thank you for sharing the fun and the excitement! The books look wonderful and so does the cake!! Hope all of your family have a wonderful and blessed Sunday, Karen!

  9. The nice thing about motherhood is just not knowing the sex of the unborn child.
This allows us to live our waiting with a sense of magical euphoria.
Conlo passage of time, imagination and increases the moment of birth acquires an added value.
The idea of the picture book is wonderful and the girl he seems excited and delighted at the same time.
    Congratulations Karen.
A beautiful walk / photo experience.
    Serena Sunday ...

  12. Happy Birthday Miss E!!! That's a wonderful gift for her. And I love the shot of her with her cake! But that baby picture of her just made me want another grandbaby so badly! :-) Alas, we have one grandchild and there won't be any more. I do miss his sweet cuddly baby phase sometimes, but I adore the kid he is now!

  16. Your little bundle of joy, is that a cross stitched pocket I see on her sleeper? She has grown into an even larger bundle of joy. You give such celebration of her life, how special she is to her Creator and the famiy He especially chose for her.

I have seen those books made by others though I have yet to make one. I still prefer the old fashion hand done scrapbooks for my children. Yet I am sorely behind! Your way seems more doable.

I love and appreciate each and every one of your thoughtful comments.

  22. Oh my goodness - don't you just want to fly back to that moment when they're that tiny. How scrumptious she looked as a newborn. Four?! Can't quite comprehend that. Love the book you've made her - especially love that shot of her running in that blue dress. So far, even though I think it's limited in it's capacity compared to shutterfly, I've been using snapfish on the local front - they have lots of deals which if you create the book beforehand (which I never have) you can store it until the deal comes along.
