Unlikely Inspiration








Hoping and praying on Sunday for some fresh inspiration for this week's History/Geography lessons, my eyes landed on my nearby hand sewing project. Then the idea came - see all those buildings!!!!

 Monday morning I set these two blocks in front of our (homeschooled) children - "These have something to do with this week's project," I told them. 
"Not quilting!" they replied.
"No, not quilting - keep looking."

 Soon we were brainstorming a long list of manmade structures/buildings which are at least 200 years old. Each child has chosen one and have a written project as well as a model/drawing/painting to complete this week.












 I'm working on building a "leaning tower" of my own too.

    Best part of education is realizing how interconnected everything is. I go from math and fractions to measuring ingredients in a recipe, I see your quilting squares inspire a building/history lesson - so awesome!

    That has to be tough to come up with lesson plan. But it looks like you really know how to get there minds to working.. Looks like a wonderful quilt you got going. Love the color.

    I love the way the blocks play tricks with your eyes seeing shapes repeated in different orientation.
    When you homeschool where do you get the curriculum from?

    Hi Diane, we are free to choose our own curriculum as long as we cover all the 6 main subject areas and the required content with in each (in NSW). Sometimes we use workbooks which are available in the shops for school/private use. For other subjects we choose our own resources and create our own curriculum, keeping records of what we have done. There will be some changes with the Australian Curriculum coming into effect over the next three years, but still some flexibility. The requirements within each state may differ slightly.
