What Do You Think?

These fabrics have caught my attention - a couple of lengths from my pre-quilting days, some have been passed on, others are remnants from previous quilts or pieces I have just loved. A mix of organza, taffeta, oriental brocade, voile, polycotton and quilting cotton. Will they play well together? Are they too rich in colour? The bromeliads flowering at the base of our stairs suggest nature enjoys a riot of colour.... Do I need to intersperse them with black?
What do you think?

  1. Maybe grey .... I think black it's to hard for combination. In the Fashion World Even said: Grey is the New Black.
What do you think, dear Karen? Hope I could help a little thing.

  3. I thought of you Kim as I was pulling these lovelies together. I may even add some rich beautiful ribbons which I ordered on sale over the weekend from the US. I’m thinking of making a simple strip quilt, something similar to this

Possibly hand quilted in the style of Kantha quilts. The mind is still playing….

  4. They are bright vivid colours but the in thing. Black would go well. Nice macro shots of the flower. Looks like modern art.

  5. They work beautifully together, so bright and I like the colour combination of the purples, pinks and greens you have. I think black would work in well with the colours you've chosen.

  6. These colours are magnificent! I am behind with blogreading but your former post is so beautiful starting with the goats around the hay, your sweet little miss and especially the pictures of the boats on the silent water, so peaceful and quiet. Yes indeed keep looking!

  7. Incredible pictures, as always!
Your colors will work together, they don't need black, in my opinion. The different textures would be perfect for a string quilt on light fabric foundation! Have fun!

  9. WOW! The photos of that beautiful bromeliads are fantastic.

The colors of fabric are so lush and vibrant. My humble 2 cents worth on the color to tie them altogether is something like that lovely dark blue/purple, 4th fabric from the right in your photo.

I can hardly wait to see what you create with these colors. I know it will be fantastic and happy.

  10. I have read thru the comments and mostly agree with all ? Like the idea of other than black. White ( as in tiny little tips of flower) was my first reaction then like the Flowerlady before me I noticed the dark blue/ purple 4th from the right.
Go with a color and accent your fabulous bundle.

  11. I love these! I would pair them with maybe a deep jade green that would match the deep green in one print on the right - I think its an Amy Butler? Black might be too harsh and remove the luxury feel of all these jewel tones. Gorgeous pull!

  12. They would definitely pop against a deep grey or black, but I do like them as they are too. A real jewel toned collection of colours.

  15. I love these colours! I'd use them without black but then I have and probably will never like black really. I'd rather use white then but as I said before, love the colours as they are, I wouldn't add white either, I'd use them without any neutral colour. Wonder what you'll decide to do finally....

  20. I happen to think black would bake the colors pop.. but I am the worst about this type of things.

    Your photos look beautiful.

    Hugs~

  21. I think they work wonderfully together! I think black could work although it is hard to tell without seeing it, sometimes black can make colors almost too intense I think, but you always have such a great sense of color, I'm sure whatever you pick will look great.

I could see a solid very light green (one that works with the greens you have in there. but still lighter) could also be fun as a background color.

  26. How gorgeous! I love the array of bright colours! Hmmm... tough to decide on a plain colour to accompany these.
Looking forward to another masterful creation.

  27. I like your description...a riot of colour. Such an array of brightness bursting forth!
I do not think these colors need black to define them, it might distract more than enhance.

    Blessings to you Karen!
