These fabrics have caught my attention - a couple of lengths from my pre-quilting days, some have been passed on, others are remnants from previous quilts or pieces I have just loved. A mix of organza, taffeta, oriental brocade, voile, polycotton and quilting cotton. Will they play well together? Are they too rich in colour? The bromeliads flowering at the base of our stairs suggest nature enjoys a riot of colour.... Do I need to intersperse them with black?
What do you think?

Ooooh...be still my beating heart!! These fabrics are the best of friends and will most definitely play nicely with each other!! Mmm...not sure about black...what are you going to stitch??

Possibly hand quilted in the style of Kantha quilts. The mind is still playing….
They are bright vivid colours but the in thing. Black would go well. Nice macro shots of the flower. Looks like modern art.
ReplyDeleteThey work beautifully together, so bright and I like the colour combination of the purples, pinks and greens you have. I think black would work in well with the colours you've chosen.

ReplyDeleteYour colors will work together, they don't need black, in my opinion. The different textures would be perfect for a string quilt on light fabric foundation! Have fun!

ReplyDeleteThe colors of fabric are so lush and vibrant. My humble 2 cents worth on the color to tie them altogether is something like that lovely dark blue/purple, 4th fabric from the right in your photo.
I can hardly wait to see what you create with these colors. I know it will be fantastic and happy.

ReplyDeleteI have read thru the comments and mostly agree with all ? Like the idea of other than black. White ( as in tiny little tips of flower) was my first reaction then like the Flowerlady before me I noticed the dark blue/ purple 4th from the right.

I love these! I would pair them with maybe a deep jade green that would match the deep green in one print on the right - I think its an Amy Butler? Black might be too harsh and remove the luxury feel of all these jewel tones. Gorgeous pull!

ReplyDeleteThey would definitely pop against a deep grey or black, but I do like them as they are too. A real jewel toned collection of colours.

ReplyDeleteI love these colours! I'd use them without black but then I have and probably will never like black really. I'd rather use white then but as I said before, love the colours as they are, I wouldn't add white either, I'd use them without any neutral colour. Wonder what you'll decide to do finally....

I think they work wonderfully together! I think black could work although it is hard to tell without seeing it, sometimes black can make colors almost too intense I think, but you always have such a great sense of color, I'm sure whatever you pick will look great.
ReplyDeleteI could see a solid very light green (one that works with the greens you have in there. but still lighter) could also be fun as a background color.
Oh those fabrics made my hear leap. It's such a gorgeous mix! I'm not sure about adding black, but that depends on the pattern.
