Google Moon

Inspired by my accidental moon rise walk this evening I checked Google to see if /when it was full moon. It's only then I discover that it is tonight or maybe last night. Not only is it a full moon but a Super Moon  or a Perigee moon, terms which I have never heard before. This is the closest the moon will be to earth this year! That helps explain why it looked so spectacular as it rose over the horizon.

With my new DSLR I head outside to try and capture this amazing sight tonight. Light clouds drift over as I'm trying to find a setting which will take more than a white glowing ball in the sky. No success. My husband uses Google and together we set the camera and I wait patiently for the clouds to move on. Worth the wait. No doubt a "better" lens and a tripod would be handy too, but I am satisfied.

The "secret recipe" we found on Google.....
Shutter speed 1/125,  aperture f 11, ISO 100.
Adjusted in iPhoto.
If you have some secret night shot recipes, I'l love to hear them!

Looking the Other Way

Heading off for a brisk evening walk, almost too late, quite a nip in the autumn air, I walk faster, holding tight my Lumix camera, just in case. Faster, faster, warming up. Onto the bridge. Yes, the familiar sunset was just about spent.
I enjoy the exercise anyway. Then I turn the other way, looking east, downstream....wow! I hold the camera high above my head to snatch a shot between the girders and above the handrails.

Walking faster I make it to the end, under the bridge and come up the other side to walk back on the eastern walkway, hoping for a better chance. But it's not to be. The sun has set, the colour and light draining from the sky.

"You'll have to be more patient for the moon," another pedestrian says.
"But the sun has already set!" I reply. Then I look the other way, south this time. WOW!!! The moon is just beginning to edge over the horizon!

I walk and watch and linger long at the far end of the bridge, now it is late. But how can I leave while witnessing this!

I hadn't thought I might catch the moon as I walk the bridge. The possibilities are exciting....

Recent Favourites

Miss E chose her first ever nightgown, she loved it so much she slept all night wrapped tightly in it.
This is her happy, almost-awake gorgeousness the next morning.....

Early morning dew drops on strawberry leaves.

Overnight raindrops dangling from a grevillea flower style, glistening in the early sunlight.

Our red gerbera as seen yesterday.

Miss O with hot pink stick, playing her first "C Grade" women's game today. She is making up numbers for a local school team of girls two years older than she is. Rather brave considering this is her first ever hockey season. Miss O is also playing in a team of girls her age. We have four playing hockey this "winter", most playing in two teams each.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

PS Just took this from our back deck as our annual town Show concluded with some fireworks!
Must work out to take better fireworks photos one day.....

Designs on Flying

I call it marvellous,  wonderful and  beautiful . Master J calls it a discus launch glider and says it doesn't fly that well, that next time he'll add ailerons in addition to the rudder and elevators of this plane. Next time he says he'll increase the dihedral so it will be more responsive.

I still declare it excellent and amazing. You see Master J designed and built this one from scratch, totally unassisted for his Design and Technology subject at school.

What's not to love about that!
