So This Is Winter

We seek out the sun's warmth and huddle under winter bedding at night. We've not even had a frost in our area of town this year, yet early mornings are still chilly. The birds sing of spring, all winter long.

Miss E was very happy to be pushed into the pool this afternoon, no need to wait for spring, yet she was also equally pleased to have a warm shower only minutes later!

Our lemon tree is laden with its best crop yet, and so is our avocado tree. The gerberas and camellia bushes flower beautifully. Even a couple of jonquils have graced us with their amazing scented flowers. All of these are wonderful reminders of God's goodness and a satisfying result of many a planting I've made over the years - even if the nurturing has been hit and miss. You have to sow if you want to reap, and keep on sowing for sometimes you don't know where or when the return will come - but it will surely come.

  2. Oh no, how freezing! Though once I tell my children that E was in they'll be keen to try our pool too. They were only asking today when they could go in.

Bumper crop of lemons here too, how wonderful to have avocados, I miss my tree from in town, though once we put the pool in it never flowered again. Enjoy:)

I bet a warm shower after a chilly swim did feel really good.

You are awaiting spring, I am awaiting fall.

  9. Wonderful Karen! Your own lemons and avocado! I'll try to grow my own avocado tree I've decided but inside of course. I'd love a lemon tree as well but that I'd have to buy first and I'd have to find a suitable place inside as well. Our climate isn't as gentle as yours is. I wish... I would love more warmth and sun, it really gives me energy and the older I get, the more I feel that. Is that strange or am I just too sensitive?

  10. I don’t believe you are being too sensitive Marian, I think we all function best in a mild climate with neither extreme summers nor extreme winters. I would not like to live in a place with colder winters, nor hotter summers - guess I should count my blessings.
Avocado would unlikely to grow well in a pot as they are a larger tree than citrus. I guess you have the joys of a wonderful display of bulbs for which our climate is too mild.

  11. lovely images from your winter garden. They look a little similar to mine. Our lemon tree is laden and we have been picking oranges for weeks. Enjoy the sunshine, have a lovely week and thank you for stopping by my blog this week.

  12. Great series, Karen. The lemons look so beautiful. Fantastic that the weather is still nice. It's difficult to realize that you have winter now. Here in the Netherlands it's summer. After a cold spring and start of the summer and a heavy summer storm we now have great weather. I hope it will last for a month or so. Have a nice day. Greetings, Joke

  13. It looks like Sptring down there already. Unfortunately, our house is in the shade of a hill so we don't get the sun until later in the morning so our garden seems to take longer to flower than others. However, in summer it is cooler on the side of a hill. Your photos are great.

  14. Beautiful photos and gentle reminder, Karen. It will surely come!
I love your lemon tree and that wonderful faded shot of it. Here we are feeling the cooler touch of fall in the breezes. The kids swam in a gorgeous aqua lake yesterday, but their lips turned blue from the chill!
