Catching Up

Chocolate mud cake was requested. Master T can't eat cocoa so he made his own triple-decker cake.

We've been home from our long weekend away for just over a week now and life certainly doesn't stand still. In that time we've celebrated two family birthdays on consecutive days.

With help from Miss E (senior) Miss O made and decorated the cake she had in mind, a smurfs' garden.

With family visiting my parents-in-love from interstate, we took a trip down to enjoy time together. Things haven't been going too good health-wise for my parents-in-love, particularly over the last few months, but that's another story. This week they celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary.

My husband speaking at a fund-raiser morning tea, hosted by a friend who lives just out of town, for an upcoming event - more on that later too...

The seedlings I planted the day before we left on our trip have thankfully survived and are looking very promising!

The triple decker cake look just as scrumptious as the mudcake. I love how you refer to your in-laws in such endearing terms. Some people refer to them as parents-out-laws!

Hey Karen, things have been very busy here this week as well. Not with birthdays to celebrate in our family though. But I did pay my grandmother a visit today and brought her flowers, her favourite cookies, and a card, a birthday card. She turns 96 tomorrow(okt 12) We all(children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and one greatgreatgrandchild) visit her with time in between. It's better for her that way. Otherwise it's too tiring and too much at once. She still lives by herself in her house with garden and bakes that same delicious apple cake she always has. An amazing woman.
I do adore the little smurfs garden Miss O created on a delicious looking cake with the best frosting I'm sure. Do I see her beating a Pinata there? Great fun! Master T did a great job on his cocoa free alternative as well by the way! Happy Birhtday to all. I do hope you parents-in-love's health has improved and things are looking up. Congratulations on their 57th(wow!) wedding anniversary. I wish them many more years together.
Bye,
Marian

Happy birthday to your sweet ones! The cakes look amazing. Sorry to hear about the PIL; it's so hard to watch our elders struggle with health issues. Sounds like a lot going on in your life. I'm tired just reading all about it. :/

The seedlings look similar to Swiss Chard...but are they beets? I love close-ups of plants, even vegetables!

Rena, the label says Rainbow Silverbeet which I believe is another name for Swiss Chard. The stems of the various plants vary, some pale green, some yellow, others pink and some red. It's quite pretty as well as being nutritious.
