The Last Two

Watching poppies grow and bloom in my garden for the first time has been a sheer delight for me. Here are the last two for the season. I hope to grow even more next year.

(If you want to see my other poppy posts, enter "poppies" into the "Search This Blog" box in the right hand column.
I really had fun snapping away at them.)

Crepe paper and that fluffy centre. Are these Iceland poppies, or Shirly poppies? or something different again? They look as delicate as Welsh poppies or the wild red ones we have in the fields.
I'll go to your other poppy posts now.

Hannah, these are Iceland poppies, the last flowers from a six-celled punnet of seedlings. I don't think they would survive our summers but have done well through winter.

For two consecutive years, I bought $10 lavender poppy "roots" and planted them...but nothing ever came up! I, too, love poppies, particularly the vibrant color and delicacy of their petals. Beautiful images!

Beautiful shots of the poppies. They are such delicate flowers, I think the petals remind me of crepe paper. I grow several varieties in my own garden.

Wonderful! Here in Belgium they are growing again, a bit confused because of the warmth of the season. Most flowers and trees thought for a while spring was there already! But last WE it has started to freeze, so it will be the last ones too. Fortunately, I could photograph one last Sunday: probably the last of 2011 :)
