We were treated to beautiful sunset colours at another nearby beach late yesterday, truly delightful. Master T was about to walk through the water amongst these rocks, as we have often done before, when he suddenly stopped, he thought he saw something......
Can you see it? It has moved away from its hiding spot in the shadow of the rock and is more easily visible here.
Just in there, is it a rock, no, it's alive but what is it???
Now can you see it? It's a Wobbegong, an Australian shark. This one was about one metre/yard long and they will bite if feeling threatened.
About 20 minutes later it swam away. I had never seen a Wobbegong before, not the most beautiful of our native wildlife but certainly interesting. I'm sure we'll be more cautious around those rocks from now on!

What a beautiful sunset, the colors are pretty. And you captured a pretty reflection on the sand and rocks. The shark is scary, good thing no one stepped on it. Wonderful photos. Happy New Year to you and your family.

I have respect and a little fear from the animals in the sea. I don't know them well enough, we haven't a sea in Switzerland.
Dangerous animals: We have only two poisonous snakes (Vipers). But it's a piece of luck to see one.

Hi 2BPhotog. My camera is a fixed lens Lumix FZ35, not a dSLR. I have a post on my camera under "Photography", I think it was dated July 7th (internet too slow, won't load for me to check this). I edited these photos in iPhoto.
It was quite late and the light was dull so the photos are a quite grainy when viewed larger. I imagine I could have done better with dSLR camera and am looking into purchasing one.
Hmm, perhaps I ought to be a tad more cautious whilst paddling in the water!

That shark is well camophlaged, I have never seen one before.
These are the most beautifully captured moments! First the sunset, and then even more so, the beautiful children and mama, and then your 'wobblegong shark..' So camouflaged and MOST interesting! So glad I had time to come by :) It was fun!
If you take that gorgeous sunset with clouds, all pastel and soft and put snow under it.... that is us :)

My 5-yo called me a Wobbegong not so long ago. I had to Google it to find out what it was! Seemed he remembered from the trip to the aquarium in June...
Hi Karen, Your daughters are beautiful, glad they have good eyes. The markings of the Woddegong blends right in with the rocks making him almost invisible.
I actually bought the Nikon P500 and found it was not any better than the Nikon P90 I use now, so I returned it. My P90 is not as good as your fz35 by a long shot. The FZ's have a better sensor and lens(in my opinion). Today I looked at the smaller SLR Lumix DMC-GF2&3 but I would have to buy 2 lenses (macro,zoom) to match what the FZ150 can do.
The FZ150 is winning so far.

I`ve got a Lumix and a dSLR - both have their advantages. For closeups i prefer the Canon dSLR with a macro lens - for holiday pictures and sharp landscapes the Lumix is often my choice. Also when I take pictures at night, the Lumix is amazing!
