Velvet Petunia

Today I have another beauty form my garden to share. I love having a closer look at each flower as it opens, a treat afforded to me by digital photography.

Thursday

We've had a few pink petunia flowers open on the little seedlings, so with anticipation I have been waiting for this deep purple bud to unfold. Early morning two days ago this is how it looked. I thought it was going to open that morning, but it didn't. It stayed looking like this all day.

Friday 8am

Then yesterday morning the action began. Both the photo above and below were taken around 8am.

Friday 8am

Friday 9am

The photo above, just an hour later. Notice the pollen-containing anthers are just beginning to open.

Friday 12 noon

Another three hours later and pollen is spilling everywhere. The flower is more of a crimson/pink than purple, very lovely and appearing to change according to the light.

Friday 5pm

Another view and a new bud with a beauty of it's own.

Saturday 12 noon

Still looking gorgeous in today's sunshine. Such a huge flower for a tiny plant.

Saturday 12 noon

And to finish, a favourite from 12 noon today. I am amazed at the intricate beauty God puts within every small flower, just glorious.

I love everything about your third photo - perfection - so rich & vivid, especially love the perspective. On the home front, I've got 2 down (asleep) and 2 are in front of TV watching Cars 2.

Stunning photos! I, too, am blown away by the beauty and intricacies of nature that my naked eye can not distinguish. I'm enjoying all the little discoveries of nature through digital photography! It's also amazing how detailed our Lord was in His creations!
