A 6pm walk in the pleasant warmth of a mild summer's day yielded more delights than expected. The Rainbow Lorikeet is one of our magnificently colourful, medium-sized native parrots. They fly around (even in town) in pairs and in flocks, noisily squawking as they go. They eat mostly fruit, pollen and nectar. The pair in this small native eucalyptus tree were busy feeding on nectar, until they flew off. At times we have even seen a pair in our own backyard.
Being an older area of town, there are some beautiful and unique older houses. The tree in the photo above is a frangipani with unusually large, pink flowers.
This agapanthus is one of the less common, very dark purple flowering ones. There is an abundance locally of the mauve and also white agapanthus, as seen in the photo above this one.
A beautiful and bright finish to my day.

Nie wiadomo co piękniejsze, czy papuga na ślicznym kwiatku, czy kwiat jak róża, czy ostatni kwiatek. Nie potrafię wybrać, bo wszystko cudowne jak i zdjęcia. Pozdrawiam
Wow. I always envy you people in Australia for having so much nature to live in. Look at the bird . Fantastic and that in your own garden. Well done.
The bird wasn't in my garden (we don't have such a lovely tree) but sometimes these birds do come in our garden, even our back deck. This one was taken during today's walk.
Yes, we are blessed with beautiful native plants, animals and our outdoor friendly climate.
Wow, gorgeous and colorful photos. I love the Lorikeet and the beautiful flowers. Have a lovely Sunday!

Oh that bird is just so beautiful - every colour under the sun protrayed in its plumage.
I think I would have liked to have accompanied you on your walk- that daylight savings feel at 6ish is always lovely. We've had several colorful birds in the school grounds lately, each time I always wish I had my camera on hand. Have a good start to the week.
We are indeed so blessed to have these lovely birds in our own back yards, i could sit and watch them for hours. I hope to be able to capture one myself one day.
I had missed my daily visits to your site of late.
It always brings a smile to my face when I drop by.
What a fantastic colored bird. I never have seen the flowers of the eucalytus before. A beautifull post Karen.
Have a nice day.

Such stunning beauty! Those parrots, and your captures of them, are magnificent, as is the agapanthus, a testimony to our magnificent Creator. Have a wonderful Christmas.
I'm definitely living in the wrong part of the world!
Lovely bright shots - and oh, so sunny. The agapanthus is stunning.
Wonderful colors! How great to see these birds flying around or having a snack on a tree :)
Wow! Absolutely beautiful colors! Stunning photos!
A like all the "brights" in your photos. R.Lorikeets are constant visitors to my yard and I would miss them if they didn't come.
just love this bird. In Curruben (spelling) on the Gold coast, these birds like to drink milk.
You are right Ann, we've been to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary some years ago (and numerous times as a child). They are very noisy in large groups.
Nice Federation style house and rainbow lorikeets are always fun to watch.
What a stunning bird. Beautiful.
Lovely, so colourful and bright!
Happy Christmas to you:)
This is so cheery as I sit in the States with gray snow all around me...
Such beautiful, colorful pictures!
Every shot perfect! Your Lorikeet with bloom is mind boggling. How can color like that can be real?
