Bridge to Bridge Ski Classic

Lots of noise and action in our town this weekend with the annual Bridge to Bridge Ski Classic. Over 150 of the world's fastest water ski race boats roar up and down the river in practice and then racing.

Although cool and windy this morning there was no rain until the races were over. The main race is over 108 km, leaving from our town, heading down river to the next bridge and then returning.

They reach speeds of nearly 200km (125 miles) per hour and can easily be heard from our house, a few blocks from the river.

The boats have a staggered start for safety reasons, yet sometimes end up very close together by the finishing stages.

We usually miss all the action as our Sunday mornings are reserved for church, however some of our family had out-of-town sport commitments this weekend, leaving the rest of us without transport. Quite an exciting outing for those of us who could make it.

Sharing at Skywatch Friday, Our World Tuesday, Communal Global.

What a day you all had. So much going on and the noise had to be something else. Your photos as always are gorgeous.
I have water skied. It was fun but I dont like really deep water so I did give it up.
Love the chopper.

Very nice pictures. It is always rewarding to go to a sports event. 20 years ago I had a colleague who died doing high speed water skiing. It is indeed dangerous.

Greetings,
Filip

Great action shots. Must have been quite a day. I did water ski when younger but never at these break neck speed.

If I recall correctly, when you first started blogging, I prophesied that within a year, you would have more followers than me - which remark you brushed aside at the time.

I was right. :-)

I'm somewhat amazed - I guess I found my niche in blogland, after thinking I had nothing to share.

Now which wonderful daughter of mine has had over 5000 (or is it 6000 now?) hits on a single post????? Who has over 100 hits a day when they haven't even posted for weeks??? Our blogs and audiences are very different. Love that there's a place for everyone.

We have year-round sport friendly weather, this helps a lot.

Great action shots! There are boat races at a city not far from us during the summer. We might just have to check them out next summer. I bet my kids would love them.

We went and watched and I forgot to take my camera! We could hear them at our place when they came up the river when they were practicing and warming up on both Saturday and Sunday.

Another wonderful series of photos!!
Another wonderful reminder of our life in Northern NSW, living on the river and water-skiing almost every afternoon in the summer. The mums would have a hearty picnic dinner ready, the men would come home from work on week days and hook up the ski boats to the cars and off we went with kids in tow. Life was so relaxing... and I loved water-skiing.
