MasterChef Australia is currently our family's favourite TV program. Series 4 of this competitive cooking game show will conclude later this week. It has sparked a renewed interest in cooking amongst the children.
Each child already prepares one evening meal per week and several of the children enjoy baking sweet treats. However there is a fresh enthusiasm at the moment to try new and more difficult recipes.
I have decided to harness this interest, the children are currently working on their first edition of a mini publication, "McChef Magazine" as part of their school work. It will contain a variety of recipes as well as several food related articles.
Yesterday Miss V (8) made profiteroles and chocolate sauce for a delicious evening treat for all the family.
None of the children had seen profiteroles before. Miss E (20) helped Miss V with some of the tasks.
Miss V had seen the recipe in one of our books and was determined that this was what she wanted to make.
She constructed a beautiful cream-filled tower
then drizzled warm homemade chocolate sauce over them.
It was a good thing the profiteroles were petite, for we were rather full after Master T's lasagne. There are some left overs for today - yum!
Some more recent contenders for the cover of McChef Magazine, chocolate cake made with olive oil by Miss E (4) - with help, a delicious Chocolate Raspberry Slice by Miss G (14) and also by Miss G, a yeast based Chelsea Bun.

Holy cow those look delish! A great idea to have a child make a meal each night. And having a lot of kids means no cooking for you! Yipee! :) The cookbook sounds wonderful!
There is much Masterchef excitement in our house this week too! My husband tends to roll his eyes when it comes to the show, seeing it as blatantly commercial. Although, he does let his guard slip occasionally and sneak a look. The kids & I love it. I love that it encourages them to cook and be excited about food and its preparation. You are rearing a veritable team of accomplished chefs it would seem! Congratulations kids, you are doing a wonderful job. Can't believe those profiteroles - they are a real challenge! Impressive!
For a first attempt those profiteroles look professional. It is lovely that your family can now make treats for you after all the years of loving care you have given to them.

They look so yummy! It is great to have so much help in the kitchen. What a good idea to make a school project out of all the recipes. The chocolate raspberry bars look delicious too!

Oh my goodness... everything looks delicious. What a fun activity for your kids to be into! :) These look like something we make called cream puffs. If they are, they are yummy!
You are right Jennifer, we knew these as cream puffs when my Mum made them years ago.
Oh my gosh, my favorite dessert. I love them so much that my hubby and I had these made into a wedding cake at our wedding. You can also get these at our local White Spot restaurant and they look just like that wonderful photo you have posted!

Looks great and you know what, we are here in holland also looking at master chef australia . Only have I sometimes the feeling that the producers have also something to say about the participants by sending away people that are definitely better cooks then the two guys that are now still in the league. But that said it for sure betters our cooking style. I personal gamble on Audra but who knows.

Great photos Karen - especially that first one - looks glistening. The 3 of us are masterchef fans down this way, most definitely. Rosie asks each day 'Is Masterchef on tonight?' And Tom is determined for a boy to win. Was sad to see Ben go last night. And now Mindy! What a brilliant idea to incorporate the show into their schooling with the magazine. Those kids of yours are lucky.

Isn't it great how Master Chef has inspired the younger generation to get cooking .... Great plating up skills and I'm sure full of flavour. I"ll give them a 10.
You are raising our future and teaching them skills that may someday become a profession. I daresay these look awesome as we all eat with our eyes first. Bravo to your children for being so talented and with your photography, the magazine will have that professional look and feel.

Oh my gosh, this looks so yummy! Kind of like small chocolate eclairs. What a neat idea to get the children involved in cooking. My mother would never let me near a stove, afraid I'd burn the house down, so I never took an interest. Good for you!

We go through spells really enjoying the cooking competition shows....since our SIL is a chef and our daughter a pastry-chef-in-training for the restaurant where they both work. These look AMAZING! Kudos to the child responsible!
