The patterns and colours appealed to me as soon as I saw them. I ordered the fabrics (Poppy by Laura Gunn) from the US but when as they arrived I felt they were perfect for another family.
A strip quilt would bring out the best in these wonderful fabrics. Arranging and rearranging on our dining table, I took photos to better assess each layout and make decisions.
I was very pleased with the finished quilt. Then I just had to wait until the gift could be given.
The wait became longer than anticipated and the quilt became even more appealing.
For the backing I used my favourite fabric in this range - Big Poppy Spice - which is now out of print.
Freshly washed and ready to give, Miss E enjoyed "helping" with the photos. "Poppy Quilt" has now reached its destination and I'm told the new owners like it very much, which makes me happy, for if they didn't, I would have secretly wanted it back. :)

Beautiful! Love that last picture with Miss E peaking from behind the quilt;-) I've quilted a lot when the kids were little. Always used old clothes and sheets because I just couldn't find beautiful fabric suitable for quilting. Maybe I should try the internet and pick up quilting again. Love the fabric you used in this quilt.

Ive always loved quilts but never bought one (or made one for that matter) but this one is just too pretty for words... The lovely designs and different patterns just makes a lovely ensemble.

Rena (and others) - yes it is very quick to piece a top this way, once you've worked out your combinations. By keeping the quilt width to the same as the fabric you can make a small bed topper of a comfy lap quilt. I've made three like this where I thought it best suited the prints.
It's an excellent way to learn a few basics of quilting and end up with something pretty in a short amount of time too.

There certainly are many lovely fabrics available, most are released as part of a complete range with complimentary patterns and colours (like the quilt I have shown) making it easy to choose fabrics which will work well together. Quilting fabrics are a wonderful quality too, 100% cotton. I have found it much cheaper to buy direct from the US even after adding postage/shipping. You may need to pay some import duties/tax depending on your country's import requirements. We don't have to when ordering from Australia (unless in huge/commercial quantities).
