The seeds were planted the same day as the cornflowers seeds, yet their growth and appearance has been very different. Poppy - "Shirley Double Mixed" the label read.
Then as if from no where, a magnificent flower sprung open. I stumbled upon it yesterday morning. The afternoon before the hairy, knobbly bud hadn't given any hints of being ready to open.
I quickly fetched my camera and snapped away before the bright morning sun had its way.
I returned late in the afternoon to check on my stunning little beauty but this is all that was left!
I was so pleased I noticed the flower yesterday morning, it would have been such a shame to have missed this one day wonder.
There are some more buds nestled amongst the furry leaves. Each day I'll keep watch, waiting for the next beautiful miracle.

A beautiful and interesting series!
You have wonderful flowers in your country!

Such a pretty one day wonder you have now captured for.... eternity??? Who knows....
But this one day wonder, now holds many many more one day wonders in its green 'box'. All you have to do is wait, and wait, until nature took its course and you can hear the one day wonder seeds when shaking the 'box' gently. Isn't nature just wonderful?
Bye,
Marian
This is a very beautiful poppy, very different from the red one that is always depicted.

so wonderful! like it...
So pretty and the perfect accompaniment to the coneflowers. I love your macro photo of the center with its ring of gold as well as the one of the petal-less bulb. Makes me want to draw on two eyes and a mouth to go with its yellowy-green cap :)
Que lindas estas flores, e as fotos estão perfeitamente belas.

Piękne zdjęcia, u Ciebie tak ciepło i słonecznie jest i kwitną śliczne kwiaty a u nas zimno i mokro.
Pozdrawiam serdecznie.

Wow, such beauty, certainly worth photographing! I've never seen any color of poppy except orange, this one is SO lovely.
sigh.... you bring such beauty to my door! How good God is to make a way for us to share His very good gifts!
I absolutely loved this. Mine are long sleeping under a cover of our first snows. All is quiet and resting...
Amazing photos. How wonderful that you captured the beauty of it.
Great title!
Oh so pretty, glad you caught it at it's best!!
I smiled when I read this. I also have poppies and cornflowers planted on the same day and the poppies are only just starting to grow some furry buds now. The cornflowers have been blooming for a couple of weeks. I was just assuming the poppies would be red but now I'm wondering what colours I'm going to get! Thanks for this lovely post. :)
beautiful
Your captures... His flowers... never cease to amaze me. Thanks so much for sharing this beauty!!
Poppies can seem so frail but can give a good on-going display. Each flower only shows for a day, depending on the type I think, but each day there is a new flower. We only discovered this recently as we have never tried growing poppies before. That is a very lovely colour Karen - Dave -
Vilisi, I hope you enjoy your poppies and cornflowers as much as I do. They are wonderfully different to each other.
there you go making my eyes happy with your photography. The pod one standing tall is my fav!
Dave, I grew Icelandic poppies last year and found the flowers lasted two or three days yet they didn't set the seed heads like this poppy. The plants were also very different in appearance to these new poppies. I'm enjoying growing a very different variety.
How beautiful these popy's are. Great captured Karen.
Have a wonderful day.
Breathtaking each and every one!
Wonderful surprises in your garden.
Blessings.
Those poppy shots are so stunning!
The first picture looks like there is some orchestra going on. It looks like it is in motion! Stunning! I'm so jealous of your photos. haha it looked like it has been touched by something divine. Bless your heart :)
What a beautiful series this is, Karen.
I have never seen a poppy quite like this one, and it is just gorgeous.
Your pictures of the flowers are so beautiful and unique. Very nice summer pictures to cheer for our cold and rainy central European November.

That looks a lot like the "Falling in Love" poppies that I have grown. Very delicate, soft colors and one of my very favorite flowers!
