Bright and Warm

Cosmos

Whether later afternoon or early morning, we are surrounded by warm bright colours as autumn slowly enters our days.

Somewhere in between these two ends of my days I've been enjoying a few minutes here and there of another brightness. I have just finished hand quilting little crosses on the large middle panel of my Sunlit Treasure quilt.

Here is the quilt top during basting some weeks ago. See those large white setting triangles? I'm trying to work out how to quilt these. The idea of machine stippling the entire cherry/white corner triangles is one option. Another option is some hand quilting - but what design to try?

I'm not quite sure - what do you think?

UPDATE 27th March:

Thank you for making suggestions. After trialling a little hand quilting I decided an open stipple would work best. It provides strength and stability, especially considering these setting triangles form the corners of the quilt. The open stippling also gives a smooth, understated finish, not detracting from the feature central panel of flying geese, while providing a little contrast.

It's been well over 12 months since I attempted stippling, a little more practice won't go astray. I have completed one corner. The border of flying geese will be hand quilting just as the centre panel is.

NB "North by North East" quilt design by Sarah Fielke as found in her book Quilting From The Little Things.

Wow - what a beautiful quilt. I don't know very much about quilt designs, but know that my breath is taken away by hand quilted quilts - I guess I'm just impressed by the personal nature of hand work. The flowers are beautiful. As you head into Fall, we're so looking forward to seeing flowers again!

Your quilt is just fantastic! I'm curious to know how you will quilt that white triangle. I'm sorry I can't give you any ideas. You're far more of a quilt connoisseur than I am.
Lovely cosmos flower and the cutest toadstool! Enjoy autumn, such a colourful season!
Bye,
Marian

Kwiatek piękny, słoneczny. Krople wody przy grzybku cudownie wyglądają. W kołdrze nie doradze, bo nie szyłam takiej. Pozdrawiam cieplutko.
Flower beautiful, sunny. Drops of water on the valve plug looks wonderful. The quilt does not advise, because I do not I sewed this. Regards warm.

Karen, this quilt is absolutely gorgeous, and I am so in awe of all of the work that must have gone into making it. Quilting is something I have not ever tried, but am so tempted to do so. Really, really amazing work.

Have a wonderful day!

I think the quilt is absolutely beautiful-especially from a distance as you see the design as a whole. Great job!
And I love the little mushroom photo with the teeny balls of dew(rain?)in the grass. Adorable!

How fancy are you wanting to go with the quilting? The white triangles offer optimal ground for a nice stencil-type design, maybe one with cherries in it somehow? But if you want to stay with a simpler, streamlined effect, you could quilt the zig-zag pattern of the inner field's seam lines radiating outward to the flying geese border.

I love all the picture you post. You have such an eye for nature and you quilt is absolutely stunning.

As for the quilting of the rest of it I have found recently that I like the look of combining machine and hand quilting, not to mention the benefit of added sturdiness to a quilt. I think whatever method you decide to use, keep the stitching open and airy. Stippling can be beautiful, but sometimes can be very dense. I love the way the white and cherry large spaces contrast the dense middle and border, and I wouldn't want you to lose that quality.

Such a vibrant photo of your orange flower. I love catching glimpses of your quilt - while they're different photos they still evoke the same emotion - it's so completely bright and happy and colourful and just a general shine and burst.

Your quilt is stunning, and beautiful, and amazing! Such little pieces...

Personally I would hand quilt something in those white triangles, pulling out a color you would like to bring out in the quilt.

You made a good choice. I was thinking a design something like that...it could be done by hand too... and I like your white quilting, so as not to distract as your said.
