Sydney Bound

I have a new appreciation for the beauty of our small local airport - or more precisely, the rural setting of the airport.

Our regional airport is ten minutes drive from the edge of town.  It was dark when we left home at 5:30am this morning, however it wasn't long until the sky was lightening in the east. Only two planes were on the tarmac, one had engines covered to protect from the near frosty predawn air.

The other was being prepared for a journey to Sydney.

Only yesterday Miss E (22) returned to Sydney for studies, an eight hour drive with friends. Today it was Miss N's(16) turn to make this journey - she was provided with a ticket to fly to attend three days of intensive cricket training at the SCG.

Miss G (16) and little Miss E watched as the plane disappeared into the distance with promises of a beautiful (yet slightly lonesome) winter's day ahead. There are certainly benefits to living in a country town, one which is large enough to even have its own little airport.

Sharing at Our World Tuesday, SkyWatch Friday.

Regional airports are always set in a pretty setting, vastly different to those in the big smoke. What a wonderful opportunity for Miss N.

Absolutely gorgeous shots, really impressive. Went out there recently for the first time in years to pick up my brother, bought back memories of David flying in and out years ago.

What lovely photos and the last one was somewhat poignant!

Rural airports are so much nicer than the huge city ones.

Have a wonderful weekend there in your beautiful part of the world.

What beautiful shots these are Karen. The last one of little miss E was rather sad. It must be a bit hard for her to watch one after another of her cherished siblings leaving while she is left behind. Beautiful lighting. It is also hard and bittersweet for a mother to watch her children leaving the nest. Hugs to you from Texas!

Beautiful captures they are indeed, Karen! I do know that Miss E will miss her siblings though!! I can feel the sadness in your pic so clearly that it's like being there!! Hope you have a lovely weekend! Thanks for sharing the beauty!

Interesting me .... We also have here in Mühlhausen a small Airport too :) So we mustn't drive alsways to the Munich Airport, when we goes in the holidays or Business. By the Way: Do You know Munich? Where in few weeks again we have the great Octoberfest ....

Wish you and your Family all the best

Lovely dawn light photos. Being a small airport you could get up close and personal to the planes. Great composition and colours. Good luck to Miss N hope she enjoys the session. Two daughters away will make it a bit lonely.

Remember when I used to pick a favourite shot from your posts ? - and then I learnt that they were all my favourites.... Same with this post. Wish I could manage quality captures like you do. I absolutely love the photo of little miss E in jacket looking on. Hope you have an ok week, Renee.

What a great time for the girls, Karen!
We have our own little airport too, and much of the time, folks just giggle about the fact that it's even called an airport, but it gets lots of use, and it sure is handy when you need it. :-)

I hope you've had a wonderful weekend!

Lovely captures. I like the perspective and the mood in the shots, very well framed.

Our experiences of airports couldn't be more different. My local airport is Gatwick, London where every couple of minutes another plane lands or takes off. The bustle and crowds inside the terminals have a level of excitement but sometimes frustration. Looking at your photos brings travel to a more personal level especially being so close as the plane takes off. I'm sure your daughter is going to have an incredible time on her cricket course.

These are beautiful images..especially the first. It certainly is a very different kind of airport to its destination:)

What a picture postcard setting and I'm sure you never have to sit and wait in line before it's your plane's turn to take off! Or worse still, wait while they de-ice the runway ;)

Sounds like the perfect place where you live. Small town beautiful countryside and yet close enough to city civilization when you need them. Exciting season for your girls!
