Early Starts

Early morning light entices one to step outside and enjoy its fresh softness. Yesterday morning our twins had an early flight to catch and will return tonight. The rural setting of our small regional airport is extra beautiful in the dewy fresh morn with wallabies peacefully grazing nearby.

Our town is known for its hundreds of purple jacaranda trees which burst into masses of purple flowers late every October for a few short weeks. It was a surprise when I spotted a couple of PINK flowering jacarandas in town this week. There are also a handful of white jacarandas around but they flower around the same time as the common purple 'jacas'.

Our little veggie patch is still producing kale, broccoli and sugar snap peas. With spring almost here the bottlebrush bushes are covered in promising buds and our neglected crucifix orchid still graces us with flowers. Morning light adds a special sparkle to each day, encouraging one to smile and remember the gift it is to be alive!

I am reading your post very early in the morning and your words ring out to me. I am just about to embark on my 250 mile drive to Manchester to see mum. As I sit here with a cup of tea all I can hear are the birds in full song outside and the ticking of the clock inside. Silence is rare in a city such as London but like you I find the early morning has its own rewards.

How on earth did you manage to get such a great shot of the plane! Do you know I think I have heaps of the crucifix orchid and I didn't know what is was called, thanks! Extra special to know what it is:)

Hi Erin, the flight now originates from L, not here, so I was able to catch it through the fence as it taxied in - quite exciting to see. Then snapped it again as it departed down the runway. I love being out there so early.

Beautiful early morning pictures, I did not know there were also pink and white Jacarandas, only know the purple ones from holidays. They don´t grow in our climate but love them.
The crucifix orchid is such a beauty and also new to me, wonderful.

Yes and amen! Whenever your lovely "jacas" make it into a post, it always makes me think of my sister, who lived among them for a time in Buenos Aires! A little bonus for me :)

Oh, I remember seeing The Flying Doctors (I think the title was that) on TV many years ago when I was young; seemed so exotic with the constant flying everywhere. :-)

I remember picking up visitors from the local airport when we lived in Grafton. Great shots of the plane!
I love all the plants you've captured in the morning light. That pink Jacaranda is stunning!

It looks like you on the runway to take that first photo! I've always wanted to see the Jacarandas in Grafton. Those pink ones are lovely. Congratulations on having success with your veggie garden.
