Thinking and Walking

Walking by myself helps me sort my thoughts, calm my body and settle my heart.
Late this afternoon I took the opportunity for this treat.

In a few short hours it will be September 11,  a time for reflection and also a family birthday to celebrate.

I'm very glad my trust is God whose love and faithfulness never change, from generation to generation,
from century to century, despite what may happen in the world around me.

First Light

This gorgeous poppy bloom first saw the light of day yesterday. The photos above were taken at 7:30 as the sunlight was just beginning to beam it's soft rays onto the brand new petals.

An hour later the fresh flower warms in the gentle morning light.

Another hour sees it's beauty spread wide.

Early this morning, our "new" poppy is bowed down trying to shelter from last night's rain, still beautiful in it's own way.

Daisy Wonder

With excitement I have watched a different African Daisy plant growing larger and it's first flower maturing from bud to bloom. The photos here trace a two week time frame.

August 26th

5 days later

Next morning

4 days later (5th September) 8 am.

4:45 pm  same day

2 days later - 7th September - 5pm

Next day (today) 7:30 am

Today - the plant is thriving, rich with the promise of many more flowers.

Today, 9 am

Today, 3pm - during the middle of the day the "petals" flop right back.

Today, 5pm - "petals" now level again.

I have found it fascination observing the differences between the African Daisies I bought together as mixed pink/purple seedlings. There are subtle differences in colours, petal shapes and sizes, centres and growth habits of the plants.
The joy of new surprises to follow each day!

The Wait is Over

For many weeks the younger children have been hankering after a swim in our pool but with cool nights the water was still too cold (so I said). Today, with the temperature at 23 C (73 F) and slightly warmer nights, I relented after morning lessons were completed. The younger 6 scrambled to dress in their swimmers/bathers, racing to be first in the pool!

They loved it but did find it still quite cold, needing a good deal of time in the sun afterwards to warm up again. They are satisfied for now, maybe until tomorrow......
