Preparing and Receiving

As we began preparing our home for Christmas this week I have been pondering the heart preparations also.

"Be careful HOW you hear," our pastor shared today.

"What did Jesus marvel at? He marvelled both at people's faith and also their unbelief. Which do you want him to marvel at in your life?" our pastor challenged us.

"What are you saying in your life? Don't block God's blessings by your words or thoughts. Read and hear what God is saying to you, it's about connecting with the presence of Jesus." Amen.

"It's by grace, receive because of His grace (for none of us deserve it). Think in faith." I am both challenged and encouraged to walk my days this way, preparing AND receiving.

Glad's Return

Some of you will remember meeting Glad last year. I'm so pleased to report she has returned.

Just as beautiful this year as last, maybe even more so.....

Have a wonderful weekend!

Together At Last

Excitement, nervousness, a few tears and a tinge of sadness surrounded us as the twins boarded a plane almost two weeks ago. This was an airport we hadn't been to before, they were flying alone to be met by someone they didn't know.

Bracelets brought from India for Miss E (4)

It was also the day BEFORE Miss E(20) and my husband's return from India. They were sad about missing the much anticipated homecoming. But they had been given an opportunity not to be missed.

Their next 10 days were filled with training sessions, many interstate games, much fun and satisfying success. There was also a special date - their 15th birthdays - away from home!

In the very early hours of yesterday they arrived home. Their presence and birthdays were celebrated with hugs, tickles, love and gifts.

Yesterday they made their own ice cream cake for their belated birthday and choc-dipped some waffle cones for the serving. It sure is wonderful to have all ten of us together again at last.

Now we can begin to think of Christmas.

Warm Summer Colours

Summer is now with us here in Australia, along with its heat and bright colours. The recent visit to India by my husband and Miss E (20) will continue to impact our lives in many ways, as it should, yet the joys and challenges of each day are an ongoing blessing not to be missed.

With our current heat wave the pool has been in good use, except in the middle of the day when it's too hot. I love Miss E's attempt to dry her hair - with a little help from an older sister.

The poppies continue to bloom in their different colours. Their little seed heads fascinate me.

A brand new gazania daisy. Thankfully they like the heat and thrive during our summers.

Thinking of so many fellow bloggers who are experiencing short days and snow. Each season has its own beauty and challenges - sharing some warm summer colours with you today!

Following Along

Miss E (20) was quite nervous about going to India, the other four members of the team were over 50 years old. She knew from her last trip five years ago that there would be many challenges and she wondered what she would have to offer. She had felt God was prompting her to go and so she said "yes" on the day the tickets had to be booked.

She need not have worried.....she was welcomed with open arms, particularly by the teenage girls who were amongst the dozens of students who stayed in a hostel to be close enough to attend the schools. We didn't even know a hostel existed before the team arrived. The girls "adopted" Miss E and she would love to return again to have more time with them and the younger children also.

The team each had opportunity to speak at a conference for new believers from the region which was held over a long weekend. As is often the way, those who went to help received far more than they were able to give.

There was opportunity for new believers to be baptised on the Sunday morning. It's quite common the world over for new Christians to be baptised, however in India, this public declaration of your faith can have huge implications. India is primarily a Hindu country. Converting to Christianity can bring much persecution from friends, neighbours, authorities and family. It's not uncommon for Christians to be totally disowned by their Hindu families.

Over the following few days the team was included in activities in some of the remote villages. Here we see the children gathered for a special day of teaching and their feeding program.

The team sharing. There is no electricity in most villages. J has a portable battery-powered PA system.

In many of the poorer villages families struggle to provide even one good meal a day for their children. The feeding programs serve the children a healthy lunch as well as some education. This one is rice, dahl (lentil stew) and vegetable curry - served on two banana leaf pieces.

Most Indians eat with their fingers, right hand only, just as these children are doing.

After the meal each child was given a blanket for they are entering their winter. J had the team members distribute the blankets, even though they had been sponsored by one the English-Medium schools which he established and directs. It was an honour for the team to be involved.

Thank you for following this Indian adventure. In creating each blog post with photos from two cameras and a phone camera, I've gradually been able to piece together more of what happened so as to share with others, make a record and also to make sense of the whole experience.
