Amazed....Again.

Isn't that one amazing insect!!!!! Sitting right on our handrail late this afternoon. After a Google search we have identified it as an Australian Robber Fly also known as an Assassin Fly and Bee Killer. They can catch their prey in flight...and I'll spare you any more gory details. Another surprise which I have never seen before.

A couple of beautiful dragonflies, also snapped this afternoon. Much more pleasant to look at and equally as fascinating. Our pool area seems to be an attraction to dragonflies.  :)
The second, smaller dragonfly is perched on a grevillea flower spike in bud.

Here is the last half of a grevillea in full flower on the same small bush. Yes, we certainly are in Australia, I do love these pretty grevilleas.

Sharing at This or That Thursday.

What a lovely blog you have! I just found you via Thea's. I love dragonflies (I'm not sure I want to hear the gory details on the other one, lol). That one with the red is amazing.

Your pics are beautiful.

As always, amazing subjects and incredible photographs. Each and everyone is lovely, yes, even the Bee Killer.

Again, I appreciate the heads up! It would be remiss of me though, even with my 'insect difficulty' to not not comment on your first shot - wonderful angle and so crisp.

Hi Tiffany, yes it is summer. Our summer began 1st December, Autumn will begin 1st March. So far our summer has been relatively mild (thankfully).

Your work is stunning!! What kind of lens do you use for your macro's?

Karen @ Pieces of Contentment said...

Hi Susan, thank you for your comment.
I don't own a DSLR but a Lumix superzoom (fixed lens). For macro shots I do get in very close to my subject and edit in iPhoto.

Here is a link to my post about my camera.
