Mid-Winter Brights

It's currently mid-winter in Australia and despite a few frosts out on the street front, our yard is still looking mostly green with a few bright spots of colour. The plants aren't growing as quickly which is a good thing when it comes to weeds. The photo above was taken this afternoon, others are from the last few days.

These gorgeous Golden Dollar flowers brighten our yard each winter, most with five petals, a few with just three.

Identified as Diosma by the lovely lady at  Seeing Each Day

Japanese Cherry (not edible)

Another photo from this afternoon, these Australian straw/paper/everlasting daisies only open on sunny days. They sure do make the yard brighter, especially during winter!

One of my all-time favourite posts follows the daily opening and closing of a younger daisy with photos taken each hour - I think you will enjoy it too.      :)

This winter, I can look at the flowers in pots at home, not outside. I know, different climate, but it's nice to look at your winter flowers, but the beautiful pictures. With best wishes.

Lots of color for mid-winter! It's like that in the southern U.S., too. I am partial to the three-petal flower and that last one is just wow!

Enjoying (as per usual) all the detail in these photos - your 2nd and 4th are commendable. Now, you have to promise not to laugh because as you know I take pictures of photos but have minimal knowledge of what the flowers are called but I think (saying 'think' hesitantly) that your 5th and 6th shots of the white flower are called a diosma? Not that it really matters - it matters that I know these flowers are tiny and you've managed to capture them in the way that I love. Will keep in touch, if internet access allows, we're off to the snow to tomorrow.

Aren't water drops just the cutest things ever? Love 'em and love to photograph them! I have to smile at bug pictures. So very often, I don't even know that I've taken a picture of one until I zoom in on the pic later on! Amazing little creatures of His creation.

el-mundo-en-colores, our winter goes from 1st June to 31 August, quite different to seasons in some countries. Our seasons are complete months and not by solstices.

The last picture is like a crawling, more like a Trhönchen for an elf? Or a fairy queen, or is it more of a dress for a fairy child .... wonderful picture in which I fell in love and come to the wonderful stories I would. ♥ Best wishes Louise-Lotte

All such beautiful shots!! You must have a stunning yard. I'd love this much colour in Winter. I love the ever lasting daisies, the Diosma & the Japanese Cherry. The Golden Dollar flower is a lovely bright yellow. I love all the water droplets you've captured.

We mainly have green lining our fence - bottle brushes & a pale pink tibouchina which aren't in flower. The huge grevillea from over the fence which encroaches on our yard has a very pale coloured flower. I'm waiting for my rose to flower again :)
